Hurray! You just got asked by someone you love to spend the rest of your life with them! And considering you are reading this… you said yes! First of all congrats! So what happens now? Before doing anything, take a little step back and read through these steps on what to do first after getting engaged!
He just popped the question and you are so thrilled and over the moon. Before doing anything else, take in this moment. You will never be right here in this beautiful moment with your future husband again. So be in the moment with just you and him as long as you can.
I know it is so hard to contain yourself right now, but before posting a photo of the ring and telling the world, call your family first! Tell your parents and anyone close to you of the exciting news before telling everyone else.
Ok, now you can post! Jump on social media and post those beautiful words, “WE”RE ENGAGED!” Show off that new bling to the world!
It’s time to grab some friends, have a drink and celebrate, cause you’re getting married!!
Sit down and chat with your soon to be spouse and decide how far out, what time of year and even day of the week you want to get married. It’s ok to choose an exact date but try not to have your heart set on it. You may find a venue you love but they don’t have your date available. Try to remain somewhat flexible so you can find a venue you really love!
This doesn’t need to be exact at this point of the process. Sit down and get together a rough draft of your guest list so you can decide on a budget and venue.
Before jumping in to the planning process, decide on a budget for your big day. You may need to cut back on a few things or your parents might decide to take a few things off your hands.
Think about the area you would like to have your wedding, what style venue you like along with some of these factors from my recent blog What To Look For in Your Venue. Then start your search for the perfect place to say “I DO!”
Imagine your day and decide who you want standing next to you when you marry the love of your life. Now go pop the question to your wedding party!
It’s time to book your photographer. This may seem a little early but the photographer and venue are two things you should book right away! The reason for booking your photographer immediately is many (like myself) give complimentary engagement photos when you book your wedding package! There is a good chance you will want to use engagement photos for save the dates or invitations so try to get them done somewhat quickly!
You can now take off with the rest of the planning process. Choosing your vendors, saying “Yes” to your dress and making your registry. Try not to stress to much and don’t forget what the day is all about!
I hope this helps you know exactly what to do first after getting engaged!
